$540M Mega Millions Winner And Fun facts

The $540 million Mega Millions lotto jackpot win is the seventh largest lottery win of all time. The winning ticket was won by a lucky person from Indiana, according to lottery officials. The winner has yet to identify themselves, and it isn’t clear yet whether they are opting for the cash option or annuity option.

This winning ticket’s numbers were 8-19-2—55 and 73. The Mega Ball number was 5. The lucky ticket holder who has yet to come forward and identify themselves has just won the third biggest Mega Millions jackpot in history! This jackpot amount has even surpassed the august 2013 Powerball prize of $448.4 million.

The winning ticket was sold at a Speedway gas station near one of Indiana’s busiest highways. The lottery officials of the state have urged the winner, whoever they are, to first hire a good team of legal and financial professionals before they choose to claim their prize. It’s a lot of money and they want to make sure that they make the best choice when it comes to how the invest and what they spend their money on.

Lottery officials have also suggested that the winner remains anonymous. It is not impossible to do so. All the winner has to do is create a trust to claim the prize for them and stay under the radar. They still have 180 days to claim their prize.

Mega Millions Facts

Let’s move on to some interesting facts about one of our favorite American Lotteries…Mega Millions! In the very first Mega Millions draw to have ever taken place, there was a jackpot winner! The draw happened on the 17th of May, 2001 where a player from Illinois won $28 million. Then, just a week later, a second jackpot was won!

More than 200 million tickets were sold at $1 each for the massive $390 million jackpot on the 6th of March, 2007. So far, the Mega Millions lotto has created 10 enormous jackpots over the $300 million mark. We also can’t forget the $656 million in March 2012 which was the world’s biggest jackpot up until 2016.

It took just 68 draws for mega Millions to sell its 1 billionth lottery ticket in 2003. That’s just one year after its launch! On August 29th, 2003, Mega Millions ticket sales reached 2 billion. The third billionth ticket came 25 weeks later.

Ever since its relaunch and makeover in 2013, massive jackpots have been won in California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

What most people don’t know, is that the majority of the profit made by Mega Millions goes towards charity and social causes. Any unclaimed winnings are given to lotto organizations or the government to put to good use. Tax deductions vary in each state.

Some other interesting tidbits about the Mega Millions lottery is that playing the game is actually “a good bet” according to an economist. Although the odds of winning a big jackpot are roughly 1 in 176 million, if you take into account the odds of winning, splitting the prize with other players, subtracting lesser-prize pay-outs etc., it makes sense to play anyway says economist Stephen Bronars.

For your next draw, if you want to pick extra lucky numbers, head over to the Columbus Zoo where a gorilla can help you there. ABC News went to Ohio in order to consult Colo, a Gorilla who picked last year’s NCAA Final Four and let’s not forget to mention the winner, Connecticut. The gorilla was given onions marked 1 to 56 and asked to choose five numbers. For the bonus number, she was given turnips numbered 1 to 46.

The next Mega Millions lotto jackpot is for 105 million USD, and the winner can be YOU! Get ready to become rich beyond your wildest dreams! Play the Mega Millions lotto online now!
