Bizarre Phobias And The Lotto

We all more than likely suffer from one minor phobia, but for some people their fears are so debilitating that they have a hard time going about their day to day lives.  Whether it’s a fear of simply crossing the road or feeling as though spiders are crawling all over you just because you happen to walk into a room and have a dolls eyes staring back at you, these are some of the world’s most bizarre phobias...

Agyrophobia - Fear of Crossing the Street

Agyrophobia is a fear of crossing a street, a highway or any thoroughfares for that matter.  Imagine living like this?  How would be get anywhere and more importantly how on earth will I get my coffee at lunch time?  Agyrophobia, comes from the Greek gyrus which means turning or whirling as the phobic avoids the whirl of traffic. Although this particular phobia does not include the fear of cars, people suffering from Agyrophobia simply find it really hard to cross any road, and it makes no difference the distance.

Mageirocophobia - Fear of Cooking

I thought my wife was joking! Mageirocophobia is a bizarre fear of cooking (I don’t know... still sounds fishy to me). So, apparently, the word Mageirocophobia comes from the Greek word mageirokos which means a person skilled in cooking.  Sufferers of mageirokos can feel extremely intimidated by people with skills in cooking, and this intimidation and feeling of inadequacy is probably the root cause of the disorder for many.

Pediophobia - Fear of Dolls

Pediophobia is the fear of dolls. Not just scary dolls, but even really cute dolls. What it comes down to is the fear of a “false representation of sentient beings”.   Well its definitely safe to say, my wife does not suffer from this as she gazes at the mannequins in the shop windows all the time. But imagine what it must be like for people with this problem? Mannequins in shop windows, little girls running around with their dolls swinging in the air. If you have this phobia, don’t look now!

Deipnophobia - Fear of Dinner Conversation

I’ve had my share of awkward dinner parties, but for some people they get so terrified of the idea of speaking to another person over dinner that they completely avoid dining out situations entirely.  Thankfully I don’t suffer with this phobia or I’ll never eat! Phobias are often triggered by traumatic experiences, usually those that occur at an early age. Deipnophobia, for instance, might start from something as simple as being told as children not to talk too much when having dinner. The phobia might also arise from an embarrassing experience, such as being ridiculed at the family dining table. So, make sure you keep things light at the dinner table and take the time to interact with your children. Tell them you bought a couple of lottery tickets and ask them what you as a family would do with all the money.  That will definitely lighten the atmosphere and get them telling you exactly what they would like to buy!

Automatonophobia - Fear of a Ventriloquist’s Dummy

We’ve all heard about this one but let’s think about it clearly... A man sits on a chair and sticks his hand up the dolls ... See where I’m going with this one. Then the “dreaded doll” looks like its speaking. Not sure what’s worse - the doll or the man. Surely he could use his time more wisely by purchasing a lottery ticket and rather stand a chance of winning millions?

Loserlottophobia  - Fear Of Not Playing The Lotto

It’s been proven that lottery enthusiasts who play their lucky numbers week after week eventually all end up with Loserlottophobia. Millions of lotto players believe that their carefully selected lucky numbers are going to scoop the jackpot prize - if they continue to play the exact same numbers week after week. The fact that something could stand in their way and they can’t get those numbers into the draw is known as Lottoloserphobia. Just kidding, but I have one question to ask you.

Have YOU entered your lucky lotto numbers into tonight’s €100 million EuroMillions Superdraw?
