The Kickstarter website was launched in 2009 and since then 5.4 million people have pledged over $922 million for project funding. In the five years it’s been in operation more than 53,000 creative projects have been established, from new technological gadgets to video games to films and more! Imagine the interesting gadgets you could send a pledge to when you win the lottery jackpot!
And this year introduced some pretty nifty gadgets, all raising over $1 million for each project. All the projects supported through pledges on Kickstarter are 100% creator-owned – Kickstarter merely provides an online platform for creative people and public funders to collaborate.

There are some incredibly technologically advanced gadgets being produced through funding from Kickstarter. One such little gadget had $1,290,439 pledged towards it this year – Structure Sensor is a type of camera that you can strap to your tablet and instantly capture digital versions of your world. Users can create a digital copy of the world around them and play augmented reality games such as “Fetch” with your virtual pet!
Another 3D delight is the 3Doodler, which received $2,344,134 in pledges this year. It’s the easiest and most affordable way to create 3D objects because the user merely needs to do is draw the object in the air and 3Doodler will extrude heated plastic which cools into the shape the user has drawn. Amazing!
This next gadget will have you wondering how you survived before its invention – Lima is a space-saving adaptor device that becomes the brain of your computer. It synchronizes all your files on your smartphone, tablet and PC’s, making everything seamless. Understandable that they received $1,229,074 in funding this year!
3D certainly is making a name for itself in the technological world. The Buccaneer by Pirate3D is a 3D printing device that received $1,438,765 in funding this year. It produces 3D prints through a series of complex processes and was designed to be a user-friendly, plug-and-print product.
