A NZ$10.2 million NZ Powerball jackpot that was won in Hamilton on 19 June is still unclaimed.
Even though lottery officials announced where the winning NZ Powerball winning lottery ticket was purchased, no one has come forward as yet to claim the prize.
The winning ticket was sold in Whitcoulls book shop, in The Base in Te Rapa.
Senior communications manager from Lotto NZ, Kirsten Robinson, has urged Powerball lottery players who purchased tickets from the shop to double-check their Powerball tickets.
With so many unclaimed Powerball lottery prizes every year, lottery officials said that players should go through their wallets, purses and usual places players keep their lottery tickets.
Kirsten Robinson added that New Zealand Lotto winners have found rather creative ways of keeping their lottery tickets safe. Speaking to the press, she said, “Winning tickets have been found everywhere from the car dash and in the glove box to inside a piano stool and even in an underwear drawer. You never know where this winning ticket could be sitting.”
The winning numbers for NZ Powerball for the Saturday 15 June draw were 6, 15, 25, 27, 28 and 35, with a Bonus Ball of 4 and a Powerball of 5.
Over 20,000 prizes were won in the draw. However, a single ticket was lucky enough to match all the required numbers to clinch the 1st Division Lotto prize of NZ$10 million.
It is the tenth NZ Powerball jackpot to be won in 2019, and the third-largest ever won in Hamilton.
NZ Powerball Jackpot Claim Deadline
NZ Powerball prizes must be claimed within 12 months of the draw in which they were won. This means that the mystery Hamilton NZ Powerball winner has until 15 June, 2020, to claim their prize.
If the NZ$10.2 million jackpot remains unclaimed after that date, the money will be returned to the Prize Pool for future draws.
The Prize Pool also receives NZ$0.55 from every NZ$1 spent on Lotto NZ games. These funds secure the minimum jackpot of NZ$4 million.
Unlike the American Powerball which has no jackpot cap and can reach record-breaking jackpots that soar into billions, the NZ Powerball jackpot has a cap of NZ$50 million.
Just like the UK Lottery, should the NZ Powerball jackpot reach its cap, a special “Must-Be-Won” draw takes place.
If there’s still no winner in a Must-Be-Won draw, the jackpot will then be split between winners of the next division – increasing the amount you could win on a second prize considerably.
NZ Powerball is a supplementary game to the New Zealand Lotto, offering players the chance to add millions to their lottery win for an extra NZ$0.70 per line.
New Zealand Lotto draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday evening.
