It’s good news for a fortune cookie lover, as the lucky US Powerball numbers they found and played won them a staggering $344 million!
The North Carolina US Powerball jackpot winner came forward recently and revealed that it was his 8-year-old’s fortune cookie lottery numbers that she gave him after dinner two years ago that won him millions and millions.
She ate the cookie and then he played the numbers on Powerball.
He’s been doing this for the past two years and they finally hit!
Charles W. Jackson Jr. claimed his $344 million US Powerball jackpot prize wearing the biggest smile.
The retired Cumberland grandfather admitted during the press conference that he’s still numb after hitting the massive Powerball jackpot.
Speaking at the press conference, the lucky Powerball winner said, “It still hasn’t come over me, you know, all that money.”
The lucky winner missed all the news surrounding the Powerball win. When he eventually did discover that he had won, he at first thought that he had only matched five of the six winning Powerball lottery numbers.
He immediately told his wife, “Look I think we need to go to Raleigh. I think I’ve at least won $50,000.00.”
After the hung up the phone with his wife he had another good look at the Powerball lottery numbers and realised that he had them all.
He called his wife back saying, “I won the whole thing!”
She said, “How much is the whole thing?”
He said, “I don’t know, I just played. I don’t what it is.”
He said he had to use Google to find out how much the Powerball ticket was worth.
Jackson purchased his Powerball lottery ticket where he always plays the lottery, at Carlie C's in Hope Mills.
Jackson, 66, opted to take a lump sum payment of $223 million, which amounts to an after-tax payment of $158 million according to lottery officials.
"I never expected to win, so I just got lucky," Jackson said during a news conference.
Jackson’s Powerball jackpot win is the largest jackpot ever won in North Carolina involving a single ticket. It's also the fifth time a North Carolina ticket claimed a Powerball jackpot.
The $344 million Powerball jackpot win is the 19th-largest jackpot in the Powerball game's history. It is also the 33rd-largest jackpot of any lottery game in US history.
When asked what he plans to do with his newfound lotto fortune, he said that he would like to donate some of his prize money to St. Jude's, Shriner's Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project.
"You play to win — but you don't ever expect to win," he said. "It still hasn't come over me yet how much — all that money."
After confirming his win, the retired military store owner called his brother saying, “Are you ready to be a millionaire?” His brother replied, “What?”
He then told his brother, “I won the lottery.” To which his brother replied laughing, “But I’m your only brother, can’t you give me $2 million.”
