A father in New Jersey recently wanted to sit his son down and speak to him about getting a summer job. Little did either of them know that Lady Luck was about to change their lives forever.
Kristopher Chrysanthopoulos, of Oceanport, was dreading having a conversation with his father about getting a summer job.
While in the car heading off to have lunch and a chat, Kristopher, a 2017 Shore Regional High School graduate, decided to double-check his Mega Millions lottery numbers against the NJ Lottery app.
He had purchased his Mega Millions ticket at a Lukoil gas station in Tinton Falls for the May 28 drawing.
It was while checking his numbers that he discovered that one of the tickets matched five numbers, just missing the Mega ball. Had he matched the Mega ball as well, he would have won the massive $414 million jackpot.
He did, however, become an instant millionaire thanks to matching the five main numbers in the draw.
Discovering his win, the 20-year-old shouted, “Dad, I’ve got five numbers!”
His father pulled over the car and checked the Mega Millions winning lottery numbers himself to make sure his son wasn’t pranking him – or trying to weasel out of a job.
With the winning Mega Millions numbers checked, the pair forgot about lunch and immediately headed to the closest lottery vendor to validate the results.
The following day Chrysanthopoulos went to lottery headquarters in Lawrenceville to claim his $1 million Mega Millions prize.
Speaking to lottery officials, Chrysanthopoulos said that he usually prefers buying scratch-off tickets. The only reason he didn’t do so this time was due to the fact that the Mega Millions jackpot was so high.
When asked what his plans were with his new found fortune, he said that he plans to take his family on vacation and save the rest of the money. No mention was made during the press conference whether or not he still planned to get that summer job.
Youngest Mega Millions lottery winners
With the latest Mega Millions winner having just celebrated his 20th birthday and still a student, we are reminded of another young Mega Millions jackpot winner by the name of Shane Missler.
Shane Missler was also 20 years old when he shot to fame winning the $450 million on Mega Millions last January. He opted to receive his Mega Millions jackpot win as a once off payment of $281,874,999 after taxes.
The level-headed 20-year-old was adamant that he wanted to be in the best possible position to deal with his lottery fortune, so he took a crash course in financial management soon after his big win.
He says that while he fully intends to use his money responsibly, he also won’t forget to have fun along the way. Most importantly, he also vowed to take care of his family.
