A man from Memphis, Tennessee purchased a Powerball lottery ticket while visiting southeast Missouri and he’s happy he did as it won him $50,000.
Speaking to lottery officials while claiming his Powerball lottery prize, Michael Watson of Tennessee said he, like most lottery players makes sure that he buys a Powerball lottery ticket when the jackpot gets really high.
With the March 9 Powerball jackpot at $414 million, he picked up a few tickets from Huck’s Food Store, 823 E. Malone Ave., in Sikeston.
“I was just filling up, then went inside to buy a candy bar and some tickets,” explained the happy winner.
It was a few days later, while he was sitting in his parked vehicle that he decided to double check the Powerball lottery winning numbers.
He immediately noticed that he had matched four main numbers and the red Power ball bonus number. He knew that he must have won a sizeable prize.
Recalling the moment, he remembers thinking, “I thought, ‘Is this what I’m thinking it is?’”
Another Powerball winner that came forward to collect their prize this week is Castulo Gonzalez of Sinton. He too purchased a winning Powerball lottery ticket while on a trip to Louisiana.
It was while he was working at a Baton Rouge plant that he like Michael Watson decided to buy a three Powerball lottery tickets. Nearly two weeks later, he discovered that one of those tickets was worth a quarter of a million dollars!
“I usually buy Lottery tickets during the week, then bring them to a store to be cashed out on my day off,” Gonzalez explained.
When his ticket got scanned, both he and the cashier couldn’t quite make out the curious message.
“Neither one of us knew how much the ticket was worth, but the cashier said I had to go to the Lottery office right then!”
While driving to Baton Rouge to claim the prize, Gonzales called his wife to tell her the news.
Recalling the conversation with his wife, Gonzales said they were both excited and still unaware of the actual winning amount, but regardless his wife said, ‘We are going to Paris!’”
After being handed his official check, the winner grinned and quipped, “I think that’s enough for Paris, right?”
His lucky Powerball winning numbers for the February 27 Powerball drawing were 21-31-42-49-59 and the Powerball was 23.
Gonzalez’s quick-pick numbers matched four out of five white balls drawn, plus the Powerball winning him $50,000. This was multiplied by five because he added Power Play to his ticket.
