As lottery enthusiasts know, it can take quite some time before your lottery numbers produce a big win. This too was the case for Robert Lundstedt from Bridgewater in Massachusetts, USA who has been playing the same numbers for 26 years. Until now of course – and boy did his patience pay off!
Feeling lucky, Robert purchased nine Mass Cash tickets from four different locations for that day’s draw. As usual, Robert used the same set of lucky lotto numbers 01-07-11-26 and 30, he’s done for the past 45 years!
After the July 9 Mass Cash draw 56-year-old double checked his lottery numbers, still feeling lucky and saw that his lucky lottery numbers had finally come up.
He immediately called his wife, Virginia, of 29 years and told her she needed come home.
Once she arrived home, Robert sat her down and showed her one of the winning lottery tickets.
“Oh my God Rob, you finally won!” said Virginia.
With a twinkle in his eye, he slowly showed his shocked wife another ticket worth $100,000, and another ticket worth $100,000, until all the lottery tickets were spread across the table.
The whole family is currently celebrating the amazing wins, as just before the draw, Robert gave one of his nine tickets to his daughter, Kirsten, 24, and one to his son Brian, 21.
Both children said that they will use their $100,000 Mass Cash winnings to contribute towards their college educations.
Robert, Kristen and Brian headed to the Lottery's Braintree headquarters on Wednesday to claim their prizes.
The lucky dad told lottery officials that he would use his winnings to pay off the mortgage on his house, while both his children said they would commit the winnings to finance their college educations.
Kristen recently graduated from Endicott College with a master's degree in special education and will be starting her career as a pre-school teacher. Brian, meanwhile, will soon be starting his final year at Bridgewater State University.
Talking about their Mass Cash win, Virginia said: “It’s crazy how he did this, and it came out amazing. We’re just very happy about it.”
