Just days before a $1 million US Powerball was set to expire, a group of factory workers from Indiana in the USA came forward to claim their $50,000 Powerball prize.
The winning Powerball syndicate members all work at Chassix factory in Bristol, northern Indiana. Speaking to lottery officials they said that they have been playing as group for just over five years.
Jorge Dominguez, the group’s leader, said that he purchases the Powerball lottery tickets on behalf of the group and always buys the tickets from the 7-Eleven convenience store on W. Vistual Street in Bristol.
The group said that they had absolutely no idea that one of their Powerball lottery tickets was a winning ticket from a draw back in November. It was only when Mr Dominguez’s daughter read a news story about an expiring Powerball ticket which had been purchased from the very same 7-Eleven store where her father buys his tickets that she told her father to rather recheck the tickets the group had purchased. Thankfully he had hung onto all of the old slips and did so.
They checked and tickets and low and behold there it was. With the ticket set to expire today (April 30, 2018), the rush was on to claim the $50,000 prize!
Mr Dominguez immediately took the ticket to the same store they bought the Powerball lottery tickets and had the ticket validated.
“I didn’t believe it,” said Irania Olivo, the cashier at the 7-Eleven store. Her manager said, “I was pretty excited. Just because it’s kind of major for a little town, you know.”
“This is a really small town, so you have a lot of regular people that come through here, and this is their regular stop every day.”
When asked if anyone else had ever won a big usa lotto prize, Hernandez said, “Nothing close to that.”
He then went into work to tell his colleagues that they’d won $50,000 on the Powerball.
Once the ticket was validated Mr Dominguez went in to work to tell his co-workers and fellow Powerball lottery group members about the win. At first his supervisor didn’t believe him, but after seeing the ticket and that it matched the winning Powerball numbers, the he cried with excitement.
Amongst group members who will each receive $8,333 of the Powerball prize, are Jose Cervantez, Esfir Kolesnitchenko, William Hart, Russell Forbes and Tong Saengtavnh.
The Powerball winnings couldn’t have come at the better time though, as unfortunately the company were they all work will be shutting down within the next few months, so the money will definitely come in handy.
