And just like that, it’s gone. All $758.7 million to a single ticket, sold in Massachusetts. While some jackpot lottery winners take months to come forward, this lucky US Powerball lottery jackpot winner didn’t wait a single minute to claim her record-breaking single ticket American lottery pay-out prize.
Introducing the nation's newest multi-millionaire: Mavis L. Wanczyk.
For those of you wondering who Mavis Wanczyk is, and what is she's going to do with all that yummy money, let's take a look at what we know so far:
- She's a 53-year-old mom of two adult children, one daughter and one son from Chicopee, Massachusetts.
- She's worked in patient care at Mercy Medical Center for the past 32 years.
- She first heard the winning Powerball lottery numbers from a colleague of hers.
- She chose the lump sum cash pay-out instead of the monthly payments.
- She immediately quit her job hours after learning she had won the $758.7 million prize.
- She's loving every minute knowing she's now a multi-millionaire.
While leaving work on Wednesday night, she and a colleague, a firefighter, were discussing the Powerball jackpot and if anyone had won. Mavis rememberd saying, "Oh, yeah, I know it’s never going to be me. It’s just a pipe dream I always had."
Her colleague then read out the winning Powerball numbers, and Mavis slowly began to recognise the numbers. She pulled out her Powerball ticket and saw that all the numbers matched perfectly. The lucky US Powerball lottery winning numbers from Wednesday night's drawing were 6, 7, 16, 23 and 26, and the Powerball number was 4.
Her colleague said, "You just won! You better sign the back of the ticket now!"
At first she thought he was just joking, but soon realised that she had the right numbers, which did in fact mean she had just won over $700 million!
The moment the Powerball winning numbers were drawn, we could see that whoever played the same set of lucky usa lotto numbers, most probably had birthday's and anniversaries etc in mind while selecting their lucky numbers.
This was exactly the case, as Mavis confirmed that she did use were a combination of birthdays, lucky numbers and random choice when she selected her numbers.
"My numbers were kind of basically random, like maybe with our birthdays, one from here, one from there," she said. "There's a thing between me and my mom and my stepfather and I have a friend, we all go out to dinner on a Friday night and we play Keno, and our number is four. I just happened to choose, and it worked to my advantage."
“I had a pipe dream, and my pipe dream has finally come true, I wanted to retire and it came early! I called my employer and told them I will not be coming back. The first thing I want to do is I just want to sit back and relax,” said the lucky Powerball winner.
The store that sold the winning ticket
The winning Powerball ticket was sold at the Pride Station & Store convenience store in Chicopee. Mavis said that she went into the store with the sole purpose to buy a Powerball lottery ticket.
Mike Donatelli, a spokesman for the Pride Station & Store, said that the store was notified shortly before 8 a.m. that it had sold the record jackpot ticket. The store will receive $50,000 for selling the winning jackpot ticket. Owner of the Pride store chain, Bob Bolduc, said the proceeds would be donated to local charities.
Congratulations are definitely in order, and to those online usa lotto players who think they could never win a lottery jackpot, remember what this extremely lucky Powerball player said:
“I just bought it for luck. Maybe it’ll be me, maybe it won’t be me. It was a chance I had to take.”
Best of luck!
